Your CloudVM virtual server can be managed directly from your client area: you can start, stop and reboot it, open a console and reinstall the operating system.
Opening the management page
On the main page of your client area, find the Active Products and Services panel and select the server you want to manage.
The management page opens, showing the server name, its IP address, the access credentials and the server configuration. The control panel itself is located below this information.
Power controls
- Boot — start the server.
- Reboot — restart the server.
- Shutdown — shut the server down gracefully, giving the operating system time to close correctly. This is the normal way to switch a server off.
- Stop — cut the power immediately, without waiting for the operating system. Use this only if the server does not respond to Shutdown, as an abrupt stop can leave data unwritten.
- noVNC — open the server console in your browser. This works even when the network on the server is misconfigured, so it is the way back in if you have locked yourself out.
Additional functions
- Reinstall — complete reinstallation of the server. All data on the server is lost. Make sure you have copied off anything you need before using this.
- Backups — the virtual machine backup service, available for an additional charge.
- Backup Jobs — scheduling of backups, if the backup service has been ordered.
- Graphs — resource usage graphs for the virtual machine.
- Tasks History — the history of operations performed on the virtual machine.
- Snapshots — creation of snapshots of the virtual machine; two are included free of charge.
When you roll back to an earlier snapshot, all later snapshots are deleted.
We recommend stopping the server before taking a snapshot. A snapshot taken while the server is running may be inconsistent and may fail to boot when restored.
