For servers running Microsoft Windows Server, additional Remote Desktop Services (RDS) licences can be added to increase the number of simultaneous RDP connections to your server. Without them, Windows Server allows only two administrative sessions.
We provide these licences under our own Microsoft SPLA agreement. They are rented on a monthly basis and billed together with your server — there is nothing for you to purchase from Microsoft directly.
Which Windows Server versions are supported?
RDS licences are available for the currently supported versions of Windows Server: 2019, 2022 and 2025. Older versions such as Windows Server 2012 and 2016 have reached the end of their support lifecycle and are no longer offered for new installations.
How are the licences assigned?
Licences are issued per user: each licence covers one user, regardless of which workstation that user connects from. This means your staff can connect from the office, from home or while travelling without needing an additional licence for each device.
You therefore need as many licences as you have people connecting to the server, not as many as you have computers.
How many licences can I order?
You can order exactly the number of licences you need — there is no minimum quantity. You can also increase or reduce the number later; changes apply from the following billing period.
How to order
Open a ticket from your client area, stating your server and the number of licences you need. We will add them to your service and adjust your next invoice accordingly.
If you are unsure how many licences your setup requires, describe how your team connects to the server and we will advise.
