How a change of plan works depends on the type of server you have.
Virtual servers
Upgrades are handled by you directly in your client area. Open the service you want to change, choose the upgrade option and select the new plan. An invoice for the difference is generated automatically.
Once the invoice is paid, shut the virtual server down and start it again in the control panel — the new parameters are applied automatically at the next start. A restart from inside the operating system is not enough: the server has to be powered off and powered on again.
No data migration is involved: your server keeps its data, its IP address and its configuration — only the resources change.
Before you confirm the upgrade, check that the options selected for the new plan match your current ones — in particular the operating system, the number of backups and any other configurable options. If an option is set differently by mistake, you may end up with a configuration you did not intend.
Downgrades
Moving to a smaller plan is not possible: resources such as disk space cannot be reduced on a running server. If you need a smaller configuration, order a new server with the parameters you want and transfer your data to it manually, then let us know so that we can close down the old service.
Dedicated servers
Dedicated servers cannot be upgraded automatically, because the possible options depend on the specific machine your server runs on. Sometimes resources can be added to your existing server; in other cases the better solution is to move to a different configuration.
Open a ticket with our Sales or Technical Support department describing what you need — more memory, more or faster storage, a stronger processor, or simply "the current server is no longer coping". We will look at what is possible for your particular server and come back to you with the options and the cost.
Every case is different, so the terms are agreed individually — but there is always a solution, and we will find the one that fits your situation.
If a move to another server is needed
Where the change cannot be made on the existing hardware, we set up the new server and you migrate your data — either yourself, or with the help of our technical specialists. The old server stays available during the migration so that you can transfer everything at your own pace and check that the new one works as expected.
When you have finished, let us know and we will close down the old server and settle the billing side, taking into account what you have already paid.
Not sure which option you need?
Describe your current situation in a ticket — what the server is used for, where it is running short and what you would like to achieve. We will suggest the most sensible way forward rather than simply selling you the largest plan.
