Plesk lets you restore either everything contained in a backup or only selected objects — a single website, a database, a mailbox or a DNS zone.
Restoring from a backup
- Log in to Plesk and open Websites & Domains → Backup & Restore.
- Click the backup you want to restore from.
- Select what to restore: all objects, or only the specific items you need.
- Click Restore.
Selective restore is the reason to prefer it over restoring everything: if only one database has been damaged, there is no need to roll back the configuration of every other domain along with it.
Restoring overwrites current data. If an object in the backup has the same name as one on the server, the version on the server is replaced by the version from the backup. This cannot be undone.
Make a fresh backup of the current state before restoring, even if the current state is broken. If the restore turns out to be the wrong one, that copy is your way back.
Restoring from a backup file you have
If you have a backup file on your computer or in remote storage, upload it on the same Backup & Restore page and it will appear in the list of available backups.
Backups created in earlier versions of Plesk can normally be restored as well, though very old ones may restore everything without allowing individual objects to be selected.
After restoring
Check that the site opens and works as expected, and that mail is being received. If the database was restored, make sure the CMS connection details still match — a restored database user may have a different password from the one in your configuration file.
If the restore fails or the result is not what you expected, open a ticket from your client area and tell us which backup you were restoring and what happened. Do not repeat the restore in the meantime — a second attempt can overwrite the state we would use to work out what went wrong.
