The password for your Backup Stor storage is separate from your client area password. Changing it is straightforward, but there is one consequence worth knowing about first.
Changing the password breaks anything that connects automatically. Backup jobs in a control panel, mounted network drives,
fstabentries and your own scripts all store the old password and will start failing silently after the change. Make a list of what uses the storage before you change it, and update each one straight afterwards.
Changing the password
Open your client area at my.sayob.com and go to the Backup Stor service in your list of services — the password can be changed there. If you do not find the option, open a ticket with our Technical Support department and we will change it for you.
Choosing a password
This password protects your backups, which by their nature contain a copy of everything else — databases, configuration files, mail. Treat it accordingly:
- use a long, unique password that is not used for anything else;
- do not store it in the same place as the data being backed up. A password kept only on the server whose failure you are insuring against is no help at all;
- where the storage is used by an automated backup job, prefer key authentication over a password if the protocol allows it — see Setting up a remote backup repository in KeyHelp.
After changing it
Update every place that uses the old password, then confirm that the next scheduled backup actually completes. Do not wait for the notification to tell you: check that new files have appeared in the storage.
A backup job that has been failing since a password change is one of the more common ways people discover, at the worst moment, that they have no recent backup.
If you have forgotten the password
It cannot be recovered, only replaced. Open a ticket from your client area and we will set a new one — then update everything that connects to the storage, as above.
For connecting to the storage, see Подключение услуги Backup Stor по протоколам SMB/CIFS и FTP/FTPS.
