DirectAdmin runs on Linux and FreeBSD. It does not run on Windows — for Windows servers, see Which control panel can be installed on Windows Server?
Supported systems include the Enterprise Linux family (AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, RHEL), Debian, Ubuntu and FreeBSD. The exact versions change with each release of the panel, so rather than reproducing the list here — where it would quietly go out of date — see the current one on the developer's site:
What matters in practice
When you order a server with DirectAdmin from us, the operating system and the panel are installed in a supported combination, so there is nothing for you to check.
It becomes relevant in two situations:
- Installing the panel on an existing server — the distribution already there has to be a supported one. Tell us which server it is and we will check.
- Your operating system is approaching end of life — when a distribution stops receiving updates, the panel drops support for it as well, and the server needs moving to a newer version. This involves a reinstall and a data transfer, so it is worth planning rather than leaving until it becomes urgent.
Note on licensing
DirectAdmin is licensed software, charged monthly in addition to the server. If you want it, open a ticket with our Sales department and we will confirm the current price. Free alternatives are available on Linux — see Installing VestaCP.
