IPv6 addresses are not assigned automatically. To get IPv6 for your server, open a ticket in your client area addressed to our Technical Support department, stating which server the address is for.
One IPv6 address is assigned per server.
Why you might want IPv6
IPv4 addresses have been exhausted for years, and a growing share of networks — mobile operators in particular — work over IPv6. Adding IPv6 to your server means:
- your sites and services remain reachable for visitors on IPv6-only networks;
- outgoing connections to services that are already IPv6-first work directly, without translation.
IPv6 does not replace IPv4. Servers normally run both protocols side by side, so nothing changes for visitors who still connect over IPv4.
After the address is assigned
The address has to be configured on the server itself, and the AAAA records for your domains have to be created in DNS. On managed servers our specialists will do this for you — just say so in the same ticket.
If you administer the server yourself, configure the address in the usual way for your operating system, and test the result before pointing your domains at it.
